#Nadal announces return to the court in January 2015 Abu Dhabi

#Nadal announces he will return to the court in January in Abu Dhabi

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal, who had an appendectomy on November 3, announced his comeback today. He will play an exhibition match in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on January 1.

"Two weeks ago I had surgery for appendicitis and I still have occasional pain. I'll play in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of January and after that I will play my first official tournament in Doha, Qatar from January 3rd to the 10th," said Nadal at an event for Banco Sabadell.

Nadal will take part in these tournaments as ATP world number three after a season marked by injuries which have also prevented the Mallorcan from competing during the final stretch of the season.

"Being the world number one is a matter of motivation. Last year it made me very excited, but it did not make me happier than being number two or number three. What makes me happy is being out in the court and knowing that I can leave with the trophy. If that leads me back to be number one, then all the better," explained Nadal.

The Spanish tennis player, winner of 14 Grand Slam titles, said that the controversy which arose by the appointment of Gala Leon as the new captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team, does not affect his possible participation with the team, which will depend on his physical condition.

"Her appointment does not affect my participation. I have and had physical problems that don't allow me to do what I wanted at all times, I have to select. I'm not saying that I am not playing in the Davis Cup again", concluded Nadal.
